Getting started
If you are new to Engine, here are some recommendations for Application Users and Administrators to help you get started.

Description |
Column Based Technology
|
The underlying technology for Engine is Column Based Analytical Technology (CBAT). This section looks at what is meant by CBAT and what the implications are of using this approach in data analysis |
Core Engine Database Concepts |
This section introduces a number of concepts that will be of interest to a broad range of Engine users. It covers everything from the basis of the Engine database, to explaining how Alterian applications perform calculations. Users of Campaign Manager products may be interested in answers to questions like:
- How do
crosstabs work?
- How do
NULL records influence my calculations?
- Why it is important to always be aware of the
resolution level of calculations?
- How can
aggregates and
remaps help me make sense of my data?

NSQL Reference Guide |
Engine supports the execution of SQL-like queries via its own query language, NSQL. There is no requirement for application users to know NSQL, as products provide helpers and tools that enable users to easily create complex queries. However, a knowledge of NSQL is useful for advanced users to help them create bespoke queries, and troubleshoot errors. This section covers all aspects of NSQL, including an
A to Z list of all supported functions.
